Theme #2: Interview with your cooperating teacher.

What are the classroom management techniques s/he uses?
1) Classroom management = be prepared each day with not only the content, but the PE space set up prior to students arriving. I have specific directions as to where students should sit. I tend to use proximity as well as calling out a student name if needed. I give specific expectations of what the students should be doing once I ask them to start participating.

Are there potential problems in the class?
2) There is always a risk of a problem, however for the most part class runs smoothly.

Is the class accustomed to group work?
3) PE is always, for the most part, working as a group. So yes!

Is the class accustomed to inquiry types of teaching?
4) Inquiry teaching in PE – no.

If you use inquiry types of teaching, how should you prepare the students for the lessons?
5) Inquiry not really used…..

Which types of assessment does the cooperating teacher use?
6) Assessment is being done subjectively all hour long (Formative). However, we do hold the students accountable to a written test covering the information for each unit (Summative).

How does s/he use formative assessments?
7) Yes, but not as much in PE as my traditional classroom. Perhaps more so when we are working in the fitness center.

What do they include in their grading system?
8) Grading system: 70% of grade = daily participation and attendance (7 points per day), 25% of grade = written test on each unit, 5% of grade = sportsmanship shown during the unit.

What are their opinions on MCA II and NWEA (if used in their school).
9) MCA and NWEA are tests that help the overall school and adapting teaching accordingly. However, I do not use much of the data for PE.
